About this product

Alleppey Green Cardamom is a premium grade of small green cardamom grown in the Cardamom Hills of the Western Ghats, a tract that spans the borders of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. It is valued the world over for its intense aroma, deep green colour and high content of volatile oil, which give it a warm, sweet and slightly citrusy fragrance. The spice grows in the shade of the high-rainfall evergreen forests, where the cool climate and rich soil allow the pods to develop their prized quality before they are hand-picked, cured and graded. Historically the cardamom shipped through the port of Alleppey earned this name and became a mainstay of the Indian spice export trade. Used in cooking, sweets, beverages and traditional medicine, it remains one of the most valuable spice crops of the southern hills and supports many small planters and estate workers.
