About this product
Salem Fabric is a fine handloom cotton cloth woven across the weaving villages in and around Salem, where generations of weavers have specialised in spinning and setting high-count yarn on the loom. The cloth is prized for its even weave, soft handle and durability, qualities that come from carefully sized warp yarn and the skilled rhythm of the pit and frame looms used locally. Salem grew into one of Tamil Nadu's most important textile hubs partly because of the abundant cotton of the surrounding Kongu region and the community of skilled artisan families settled there. Today the fabric is used for dhotis, shirtings, sarees and furnishing cloth, and it supports thousands of handloom and powerloom households in the district. Its reputation for reliable quality has made 'Salem cloth' a trusted name in cotton textiles far beyond Tamil Nadu.
