About this product
Thirubuvanam silk sarees are pure mulberry-silk sarees woven in the town of Thirubuvanam near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district, known for their heavy zari work and rich, traditional designs. Woven from pure silk with real zari, the sarees are traditionally made in a single piece with body, border and pallu woven together, giving them strength and a regal look favoured for weddings. The weavers use fine silk yarn and time-honoured motifs of temple borders, mangoes and checks, and the town's cooperative societies have long been central to organising production and marketing. Thirubuvanam sits within the Cauvery delta's silk-weaving belt and its sarees are often compared with Kancheepuram silks for quality. The craft supports a large community of weavers and remains an important pillar of the delta region's handloom silk tradition.
